Why You Feel Powerful One Day and Stuck in Fear the Next (and How to Break the Cycle)
Have you ever noticed how one day you’re unstoppable: clear, grounded, ready to take on the world. Then the next you’re curled up in fear, doubting everything?
You wonder, “What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I hold onto that power?”
Nothing’s wrong with you. What you’re experiencing is the natural rhythm of transformation. At BreakBox Coaching, we see this swing between empowerment and fear as a sign you’re evolving, not failing.
The Hidden Reason Behind the Swing
Ego vs. Authentic Self
Your authentic self is the one that feels free, powerful, and aligned. But when you expand into that state, your ego feels threatened because it’s built on control and survival. The ego will pull you back into fear to keep you “safe.”
The Ego’s Last Stand: We need to accept that every time you expand into your authentic power, your ego feels threatened. Its job is to keep you “safe,” even if that means keeping you small. When you shine, it pulls you back with fear, doubt, or shame.
Nervous System Regulation
Power feels expansive and open. Fear feels contracted and protective. When your nervous system isn’t yet fully trained to sustain that openness, it swings back to contraction. It’s like stretching a muscle—it takes repetition before the new baseline feels natural.
Your Nervous System Can Only Hold What It Knows: Power feels big. Expansive. Exposed. If your nervous system has lived mostly in contraction, stepping into expansion can feel overwhelming. Like any muscle, it needs training to sustain a new baseline.
Shadow Surfacing
Every time you rise into your power, the parts of you that have lived in fear get exposed. That’s not regression, it’s integration. What’s coming up is the very energy that’s ready to be healed and reclaimed.
Shadows Rise with the Light: The more light you embody, the more your unhealed parts surface. Fear isn’t regression, it’s integration. What you meet on the “fear day” is exactly the piece of you ready to be healed.
The Pendulum of Transformation
Growth often moves like a pendulum. You swing wide into new territory (power, freedom), then swing back into the old (fear, contraction). Each swing carves out more space in your psyche until the center point shifts and power becomes your norm.
Transformation is a Pendulum: Growth doesn’t move in straight lines. It moves like a pendulum: swinging between the old and the new, carving out enough space for the center point to shift. Over time, your “fear days” lose their grip, and power becomes your new normal.
🪶 BreakBox Insight: Those fearful days aren’t proof you’re failing, they’re proof you’re expanding. Fear shows up not to trap you, but to invite you into deeper mastery. The real question isn’t “why do I swing?” It’s “how do I anchor so my power becomes steady, even when fear whispers?”
Fear is not proof you’re trapped. Fear is proof you’re expanding.
Every time you step into power, you stir up the layers that once kept you small. Instead of running from the fear days, learn to anchor yourself in them. That’s self-mastery, staying steady in your truth when fear whispers its lies.
How to Anchor on Fear Days
Here’s a simple example of a BreakBox practice you can use or adapt:
Name It Out Loud: “I notice fear showing up. I’m safe right now.” Naming interrupts the spiral.
Shift the Breath: Place a hand on your solar plexus (the seat of fear). Inhale for 4 counts, exhale for 6. This signals safety to your nervous system.
Invite the Shadow: Ask: “What part of me is scared? What does it need?” Listen without judgment. Fear often softens when it’s acknowledged.
Anchor in the Authentic Self: Write down one truth that was clear to you on your “power day.” Keep it close. On fear days, return to it as a lighthouse.
Your Next Step
This cycle isn’t random, it’s the doorway to your self-mastery.
Until you learn to anchor your power, your life will feel ruled by external forces: other people’s expectations, old survival patterns, and the nervous system’s reflex to keep you small.
When you master the swing, you stop getting pulled back into the box. You step into authentic leadership of your own life.
That’s exactly what we do inside BreakBox Coaching, we teach you how to sustain your power, even on the fear days, until self-mastery becomes your baseline.
